If you like buffalo wings, this homemade pizza recipe is for you! The homemade buffalo sauce, chicken, and gooey cheese have all the flavors of delicious buffalo wings, but it sits on top of a crispy crust.

This Homemade Buffalo Chicken Pizza Recipe is perfect for game day or for your next pizza night. When we are craving wings, we love to make buffalo chicken dip, but you can’t beat homemade pizza!

We learned this buffalo chicken pizza recipe from some friends who have an annual hockey game with an after-party at their house. It’s always great to see everyone, and the food is always amazing! So, when they offered to share some recipes with me, I had to say yes…

Since I am a native of Buffalo, recipes like this are what we make when we have parties or big sports weekends like the Superbowl, hockey playoffs, etc. Chicken wings go with pizza… that is just how it goes here in my hometown.

This hot wing pizza takes a little time in the kitchen, but it is such an easy recipe to make. And once you have a bite, you will be so glad you made it! It is better than a pizzeria pizza! And if you don’t like buffalo wings, try my white pizza or supreme pizza instead – you will love them both! 🧀 Ingredients Needed

  • Chicken Breast – Cooked, shredded chicken, or diced chicken. You can use leftover rotisserie chicken.
  • Pizza Dough – For the Pizza Dough: We use store-bought dough when we make homemade pizza and have been buying pizza dough at our favorite pizzeria lately. It is reasonably priced, good dough, and it saves time. If you have a favorite homemade pizza dough recipe, you can use that instead of buying it.
  • Blue Cheese Dressing – We use Ken’s Blue Cheese Dressing, but you can use your favorite Blue Cheese Dressing. (You can also add blue cheese crumbles or even a Creamy Ranch Dressing if your family doesn’t like blue cheese.)
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • Shredded Asiago Cheese
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Hot Sauce – We like to use Frank’s Red Hot Sauce.
  • Butter
  • Spices You Will Need: celery salt, garlic powder, ground cayenne pepper, ground cloves, nutmeg, onion powder, and salt.
  • Fresh Chives or Green Onions to garnish, optional
  • Optional, you can also add thinly sliced red onion, finely diced celery, or pickled red onions.

🥄 Equipment Needed

  • A Baking Sheet, Pizza Stone, or Cookie Sheet
  • Several Small Bowls and a Mixing Bowl
  • A Whisk
  • An Oven
  • Measuring Spoons/Measuring Cups

👩‍🍳 How to Make Buffalo Chicken Pizza

To make this recipe, you will need to cook the chicken breast before making the pizza. Place the chicken in a baking dish and cook it in your oven at 400°F for 20 minutes. (You can also use diced-up rotisserie chicken or chicken that has been cooked in an Instant Pot and shredded.)

Take your dough out of the refrigerator and place it on the counter to warm up while the chicken is cooking. The dough will stretch out easier if it is warmed up a little bit.

Once the chicken is cooked, let it cool slightly, and then cut it up into small cubes. Set the chicken aside.

🥫 How to Make Chicken Wing Sauce

This chicken wing sauce is what makes this pizza so delicious! The Chicken Wing Sauce is the Butter + Spices.

While the chicken is cooking, make the chicken wing sauce. In a small bowl, combine celery salt, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, ground cloves, nutmeg, onion powder, and salt. Melt the butter and whisk it into the seasonings. Once everything is mixed well, set it aside.

The Buffalo Sauce is the Chicken Wing Sauce + the Hot Sauce.

Each pizza will use three tablespoons of chicken wing sauce combined with the hot sauce. The amount of hot sauce that you add to the chicken wing base depends on how spicy you like your food.

🌶️ How Spicy Do You Want Your Buffalo Chicken Pizza?

Here are the three different ways you can prepare your chicken wing sauce for your pizza:

  • For a mild flavored sauce, use 3 tablespoons chicken wing sauce and one tablespoon hot sauce.
  • To make your pizza medium flavored, use 3 tablespoons chicken wing sauce and two tablespoons hot sauce.
  • And, for the hottest sauce, use 3 tablespoons chicken wing sauce and three tablespoons hot sauce.

In another small bowl, mix your desired quantity of hot sauce with three tablespoons of chicken wing sauce, then pour it over the cubed chicken, and mix well until all the chicken is coated with the sauce.

You will have extra chicken wing sauce. The recipe makes a batch of sauce that will be good for more than one pizza. How many pizzas you get out of the sauce recipe depends on how much you use on each pizza.

Store the extra sauce in your freezer. Pour any extra sauce into a freezer/microwave-safe container and place it in the freezer. You can also freeze it in small cubes, like Souper Cubes or an ice cube tray. When you want to use it next time, place the container in your microwave and heat it up. Heat at 20 second increments, stirring after each one, until it is a liquid. Refreeze any extra chicken wing sauce.

🥣 How to Prep and Bake Homemade Pizza

Adjust your oven temperature to 450°F and grease your pan with butter or olive oil. The pizza will come out of the pan much easier if you grease the pan.

Spread your pizza dough out evenly into your pizza pan or baking sheet. For best results, you shouldn’t use a rolling pin to roll out pizza dough. Rolling out the dough with a rolling pin can make the dough dense and tough. Just use your hands to pull and stretch out the dough.

Using my hands, I press the dough out, working from the center, toward the edges of the pan. This post has some great tips for working with pizza dough.

Once you have your dough spread out in the pan, par-bake the dough in a preheated oven

♨️ What is Par-Baking Pizza Dough?

Parbake means to partially bake the pizza dough. Par-baking the dough is good to do with this recipe since this is a heavy and wet pizza, and it will make sure the dough is cooked all the way through.

To par-bake it, bake the dough only for 7 minutes, and then take it out of the oven to add the pizza toppings.

Once the pizza dough is par-baked, spread the blue cheese dressing over the pizza crust as your sauce for the pizza.

Then add the chicken that is coated with the sauce to the pizza, placing it over the blue cheese evenly.

Sprinkle parmesan cheese over the chicken, enough to soak up the sauce. Then sprinkle your asiago and mozzarella cheeses over the pizza.

Once the pizza ingredients are all set, place it back into the oven and bake for 8 additional minutes.

The edges will be slightly brown, and the cheeses will be melted once the pizza is done. Let it sit in the pan for five minutes before cutting it into slices. If you like, sprinkle some chives over the pizza.

Then run a knife around the edges and use a spatula to get it out of the pan. I like to cut the pizza on either a large cutting board or a plate so I don’t scratch up my pan. And using a good, sharp pizza cutter makes it so much easier to slice the pizza.

When we make this pizza, we usually make one pizza mild for my daughter and me since we prefer less heat. We make a second one with spicy buffalo sauce for my husband and son, who like a spicier pizza.

🫙 How to Store Leftover Pizza

We often have leftovers since we make two pizzas, but that is okay because this is a favorite recipe in our house! Cover the leftover pizza tightly or store it in an airtight container and refrigerate any leftovers. To warm it up, use either your microwave, toaster oven, air fryer, or oven.

🍞 Pizza Dough Tips

  • Let the dough sit out at room temperature for about 20 minutes (while the chicken is cooking).
  • Do not roll out the dough. Rolling out the dough can make the dough dense and tough. Use your hands to pull and stretch out the dough.
  • If the dough snaps back when stretched, it is most likely too cold, so let it sit a little longer to warm up more.

✏️ Recipe Tips

  • The spice level of this pizza can be made in three variations: hot, medium, or mild. You can adjust it to the taste of those eating it.
  • This recipe makes a big batch of chicken wing sauce, so you can use it several times. Leftover buffalo sauce can be stored in the freezer for additional pizzas or buffalo wing sauce. Just warm it up in the microwave at 20 second increments, stirring after each one, until it becomes a liquid.
  • If you don’t have a pizza pan or pizza stone, a baking sheet will work for this recipe.
  • Par-bake the pizza dough to make sure the dough is cooked all the way through before topping it with wet toppings.

  • Par-bake the pizza dough. Do this by baking the pizza dough only for 7 minutes. Remove it from the oven, add the toppings and place it back in and bake the pizza for 8 minutes or until the edges are slightly browned, and cheeses are melted. This makes sure the dough is cooked all the way through, especially with it being a heavy pizza.

🥗 What to Serve with Pizza

Looking for a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer to serve with your pizza? Try my recipe for Buffalo Chicken Dip. It goes great with pizza or to serve as an appetizer. We also like to serve pizza with a side salad – I love a chopped blue cheese & bacon salad – or some cut celery sticks and carrot sticks.

Buffalo Chicken Wing Pizza, Dinner, Pizza

We love having pizza night at our house once a week. Buffalo Chicken Pizza is one of our favorite pizza recipes to make, along with our White Pizza, Taco Pizza, and Supreme Pizza. It is nice to mix it up a little with different types of pizzas.

If you are looking for a really quick (and healthy) pizza recipe, make my Veggie Pita Pizza. It is made with mushrooms, peppers, and onions. It is so easy and delicious. It also makes a great Meatless Monday Meal.
