Crockpot Spaghetti Sauce

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce in the crockpot is such a great dinner that is so easy to prepare. The delicious Italian flavors mingle all day long, giving the sauce such a wonderful flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 28 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 12 ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (green, red or orange)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1-2 carrots, peeled and finely shredded (optional)
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • whole grain spaghetti noodles
  • grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • fresh herbs such as oregano or basil to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Brown the meat on medium heat in skillet, stirring occasionally. Break up the meat into small pieces while cooking using a spatula or large spoon.
    1 lb. lean ground beef
  • Cut up the pepper and onion. If using carrot, peel and shred the carrot.
    1 bell pepper, diced, 1 medium onion, diced
  • Place browned meat into the crockpot.
    1-2 carrots, peeled and finely shredded
  • Add in the peppers, onion, and carrot. Add in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

  • Pour in the diced tomato, tomato paste, and water.

  • Mix all ingredients together.
  • Cover and cook on high for 4 - 6 hours, low for 6 - 8 hours.
  • Serve over cooked spaghetti noodles.

Notes

Can be prepared ahead of time: If you don't have time to prepare the sauce that day, it can all be prepped the day before. Just keep the cut up vegetables and cooked beef covered in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it the next day. Then place all ingredients in the crockpot and turn it on. 
A time-saving tip: Make a meat sauce instead of making meatballs. Brown the meat in your skillet over medium heat. Crumble it into smaller pieces with a spatula and add to your sauce. It saves time by not having to make and cook the meatballs before adding them to the sauce.
