How to Freeze Bananas for Smoothies

Smoothies are a fantastic way to boost your fruit and veggie intake. Frozen bananas create a delicious, creamy base, and they're easy to store for smoothie prep anytime.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 ripe bananas

Instructions

  • Choose ripe bananas, then peel the bananas. Line a baking sheet that will fit in your freezer with parchment paper.

  • Cut each banana either into small chunks (quarters) or slice bananas into ½ inch slices - this will be easier to blend.
  • Spread the banana slices out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Freeze for 2-3 hours, then transfer the banana slices to a freezer bag and freeze overnight.

  • When you're ready to make a smoothie, remove the bananas from the freezer a few minutes before using them to let them soften a bit at room temperature.
  • Store bananas for 3-6 months.

Notes

1 Frozen Banana comes out to about 2/3 Cup Banana Slices for later use in smoothies, though I often just eyeball it!
