With just five minutes and a few pantry staples, you can make your own delicious Mild Taco Seasoning from scratch. Say goodbye to store bought taco seasoning and enjoy a fresh, homemade taste every time!
It’s Taco Tuesday (or Wednesday), and we love all things taco. We love to have a family taco night, make taco pizza, or make taco salads with this homemade mild taco seasoning recipe.

I have always liked tacos. But for some reason when I would use the store-bought taco seasoning mix, there was something I just did not like about the seasoning. So, I stopped making them…
Until the local taco truck got me hooked again! They had such a great flavor and used fresh cilantro…yum! I decided to try making tacos with homemade taco seasoning instead. And the results were amazing! Now we have been making tacos once a month! (And in the summer we add fresh pico de gallo!)
Why Make Homemade Taco Seasoning?
- Less Salt – Cut down on sodium
- No Chemicals – Cut out additives, preservatives, and coloring that you find in a store-bought package
- Taste – It is not a hot and spicy seasoning so it is great for the whole family. It’s a great mix of flavors. So give this mild seasoning blend a try and you might start having a weekly taco night!

How to Make Kid Friendly Taco Seasoning
This recipe is easy to prepare.
- Combine all the ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Mix it up well.
- And…you’re done.
Recipe Yield
This recipe makes about ¼ cup of seasoning.
If you are using this for taco meat like a seasoning packet, you will use 2-3 teaspoons of seasoning and ½ cup water per pound of ground meat – ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey. I use this amount for my family of four to stuff hard shell tacos.
We have used this recipe not only with our tacos but also with our taco salad and taco pizza recipes. If you love tacos, you should try these recipes. I think you will love them!
