  • Naturally Sweet and Refreshing – No added sugar needed – the fresh fruit is sweet enough!
  • Kid-friendly Breakfast Idea – Colorful, fruity, and fun to make.
  • Ready in 5 Minutes – Perfect for busy mornings or an afternoon snack.
  • Simple Ingredients – Only 5 ingredients in this healthy smoothie recipe.

Ingredients for a Blueberry Pineapple Banana Smoothie

  • Frozen Blueberries – You can use fresh blueberries in the summer, just use a frozen banana instead!
  • Frozen Pineapple Chunks – A tropical flavor boost with lots of Vitamin C. If you have fresh pineapple, you can swap the fresh banana for frozen banana slices.
  • Fresh Banana – Adds creaminess and extra natural sweetness.
  • Greek Yogurt – You can use plain Greek yogurt or vanilla. (You can also use cottage cheese! I swear, it’s good!)
  • Milk – Use your favorite milk. I like to use whole milk, but you can use your favorite non-dairy milk, like unsweetened almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.

Recipe Tip – Use Local or Fresh Blueberries

We love to pick wild blueberries in the summertime and freeze them to use in smoothies, pies, jams, and muffins throughout the year. They are such a delicious addition to smoothies, and we love to use local fruit in our favorite recipes!

How to Make a Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie

  1. Make the smoothie. Add milk, Greek yogurt, frozen blueberries, frozen pineapple, a fresh banana, and optionally, collagen peptides or protein powder to a blender.

  1. Blend until creamy. Start on low speed and gradually increase the speed so things don’t go flying all over the blender. Scrape down the sides as needed until everything is fully blended.
  2. Adjust the texture if needed. If it’s too thick, add a splash more milk. If it’s too thin, toss in a few extra frozen blueberries or pineapple chunks.

Smoothie Add-Ins and Variations

Want to customize your smoothie? Try these additions and swaps to make it even better:

  • Non-dairy Swap – Use your favorite plant-based milk in place of dairy milk. You could also use pineapple juice, orange juice, or coconut water in the summertime to make it more refreshing and less creamy.
  • Protein Swap – Swap the yogurt for cottage cheese. You won’t even taste it! (Cottage cheese makes me cringe and I don’t even know it’s there!)
  • Protein Boost – Add collagen peptides or a scoop of protein powder.
  • Superfood Boost – Add a spoonful of hemp seeds, flax seeds, or chia seeds.
  • Sneak in Greens – Add a handful of baby spinach, kale, or other leafy greens. The fruity flavors hide it perfectly! A Blueberry Pineapple Spinach Smoothie makes such a pretty color!
  • Make a Smoothie Bowl – Make it thicker by using frozen banana slices, then top with granola, fresh banana slices, and a drizzle of melted peanut butter or almond butter.
  • Add Healthy Fats – Add a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter or half an avocado.
  • Add Peaches – When peaches are in season, I love to toss a few peach slices in my smoothies. Especially if I get a few that are a little bruised or overripe!

Tips for the Best Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie

  • Use a Mix of Frozen and Fresh Fruit – Frozen fruit gives the smoothie a thick, creamy texture without watering it down. (No ice cubes in this smoothie!)
  • Layer Ingredients Properly – Add milk first, then yogurt, then fruit to help the blender do its job.
  • Taste Before Serving – Want a sweeter smoothie? Add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. (My husband likes his smoothies extra sweet!)

Notes

This recipe makes enough to serve two with a small side like a muffin or four as a small glass with a full breakfast. Sometimes, I’ll drink the whole thing myself when I have to take breakfast on the run, but it fills a quart mason jar, so it is a lot of liquid!

FAQs

Can I make this pineapple blueberry smoothie ahead of time?

Yes! You can make your smoothie ahead and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Just give it a good shake or stir before drinking, as it may separate a little. For the freshest texture, it’s best enjoyed right after blending!

How can I make a blueberry pineapple smoothie without yogurt?

If you want a dairy-free blueberry pineapple smoothie, simply leave out the yogurt and add a little extra banana for creaminess. You can also use a plant-based yogurt like almond milk yogurt, coconut yogurt, or oat milk yogurt for a creamy, dairy-free option. You can also use orange juice instead of milk to make it a little more beachy and tropical.

What can I add to make this smoothie more filling?

An easy way to make a more filling breakfast smoothie would be to blend in a scoop of protein powder, collagen peptides, a handful of oats, or healthy fats like peanut butter, almond butter, chia seeds, flaxseeds, or hemp hearts. They’ll boost the nutrients and help keep you full longer!
