These Easter Treat eggs are perfect for your Easter dessert table. The eggs are made of Rice Krispie Treats with M&M candy hidden inside, and kids will love them!

Not only are these Easter Treats delicious they are also a great dessert recipe that the kids can help make. They can help make the mix or have the job of filling the eggs with M&M’s! We love to make either these treats, Easter Dirt Cake, or Peeps Rice Krispie Treats for Easter.

For the last few years, we have made these for Easter. We make real eggs as well to color (and turn into egg salad later), but these treats are so much fun to make for dessert because – candy!?

They make a fun Easter dessert for kids and adults (who doesn’t love a Rice Krispie Treat?!). And M&M’s are a favorite with just about everyone I know, so putting them together just makes sense!

Grocery Shopping List

  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Marshmallows
  • Butter
  • M&M candy

I like to use either mini or regular sized M&M candy. You can use other candy like jelly beans or your favorite candy that would fit inside the eggs.

How to Make These Easter Treats

The first step in making these yummy Easter Treats is to make the Rice Krispies treat mixture. Then you will just need to follow the easy steps below to make these adorable Easter eggs!

How to Make the Rice Krispies Treat Mixture

Melt three tablespoons of butter in a medium to large pot on low heat, stirring often.

Once the butter is just about melted, add in the marshmallows and stir until the marshmallows are melted and combined with the melted butter.

Remove from heat and gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Mix until all the cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture. I add about two cups at a time to make it easier to combine the ingredients.

Recipe Tip

Generously grease the inside of the plastic egg so that the Rice Krispie treats do not stick to them. Also, rub some butter on your hands so that the cereal mixture will not stick to your hands.

Take out a little of the cereal mixture and press down into both sides of the egg, leaving a small area in the center for the candy.

Place some M&M’s into each side of the egg (this is a great job for little hands). Close the plastic egg so that the two sides of the egg connect.

Filling eggs with M&M candy

Open the plastic egg and remove the cereal egg. Set the egg aside while you make the rest of your Easter Treat eggs.

Reshaping the Eggs

If your egg needs a little better egg shape, place a little more of the cereal mix into the plastic egg. Put the Easter Treat egg back in the plastic egg, close it so the cereal egg can pick up the added mix and reshape. Remove the cereal egg and set aside while you make the rest of them.

Continue making the Easter Treat eggs until you run out of the cereal mixture. We use the larger eggs and make about 12 eggs out of this recipe.

Recipe Tip

By using the larger plastic eggs you can fill the egg with more candy inside.

They are best eaten within two days of making them. Store them in an airtight container.

Recipe Tip

The eggs can get a little hard after a couple of days. To soften them, place them in the microwave for about ten seconds to soften up. If you do this, warm them in the microwave right before eating them for the best results.

Recipe Variations

  • Substitute suggestions for M&M candy: jelly beans, skittles, chocolate chips…or your favorite candy that is about the size of an M&M.
  • Skip the candy. If you would prefer to not add any candy, that is fine. The eggs are great on their own…we just like to add a little extra sweetness!
  • Want to make them colorful? Add a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallow and butter mixture when making the rice krispie treat mixture.
  • Fun tip on using them from a reader: Leave them in the plastic eggs and use them for an Easter egg hunt!

Yes it is! Kids love to make these and of course, eat them too!

  2. amy says:

Could u just leave them in the eggs, maybe for an inside egg hunt?

    1. Jeannie Z says:

      Amy,

I think that would work. The only issue is that they might be a little messy with the eggs being greased with butter so the rice krispie eggs don’t stick to the plastic eggs. Fun idea!

Could you freeze these for a couple of days?

    1. Jeannie Z says:

      Hi Brooke,

That is a good question. I have never frozen them before (they usually don’t last too long in our house!). I can’t tell you from doing it myself, just from reading up on it. I do think you can freeze them as long as they are wrapped very well. You might want to wrap them in saran wrap and then place them in a freezer safe bag. I hope this helps.
