Summer is grilling season at our house. We live in Western NY, so during the winter months, it is just too cold out to grill. We look forward to certain recipes that we can only have on the grill during those summer months.

I am not one to grill…for some reason, I get nervous handling the grill so my husband is the grill master in our family! He makes some delicious recipes on the grill – this one for Barbecue Ranch Hamburgers is at the top of the list.

How to Make the Burgers

  1. Preheat the Grill: Start by preheating your grill to medium heat (around 400°F).
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, bread crumbs, garlic powder, pepper, and diced onion.
  3. Blend the Beef: Add the ground beef to the mixing bowl and mix everything together, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Form Burger Patties: Use a hamburger press to form the beef mixture into four equal patties. If you don’t have a press, you can form the patties by hand.
  5. Coat with Olive Oil: Mix the olive oil and chili powder in a small bowl. Coat each patty with olive oil to prevent it from sticking to the grill.
  6. Grill the Patties: Cook the burgers for about 8 minutes on each side. If adding cheese, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty in the last two to three minutes of cooking.
  7. Assemble the Burgers: Place each cooked hamburger patty on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, sliced red onion, and any other toppings you desire. (I like to toast the buns right on the grill!) Drizzle some extra barbecue sauce on top for an added kick.
  8. Serve and Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • A great tip from my husband is to use a hamburger press when making your burgers. It helps keep the patty together when cooking. He uses this every time he makes hamburgers and they really do keep their shape well.
  • Coating both sides of the burger patty with some olive oil will prevent it from sticking to the grill grate. We add chili powder to the olive oil for a little extra flavoring. If you don’t have chili powder, paprika is a great substitute.

Variations

  • Hidden Valley Ranch Burgers: For a twist, try using Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning mix instead of ranch dressing.
  • Top it with Coleslaw: Add a scoop of coleslaw to the burger!
  • Change the Protein: Use ground turkey or ground chicken in place of ground beef.
